Most modelers want to know, what is the tried and true method to be successful with a single or multi-wing kit. If your going to invest in a model that costs as much as current kits do, your going to want to avoid pitfalls that will make your kit unattractive after its completed. This site is dedicated to the average modeler who wants to enjoy a good build of a World War One aviation kit and has limited resources. A truly successful build is one the modeler is satisfied with. The methods I use have not only brought me a great deal of satisfaction but high praises from fellow modelers that I consider my superiors. Here, I offer "How to Build" packages on the factors of completing World War One aviation model kit subjects and their related themes. Today‘s kit is multi media , better scale details and has an average of 3 to 4 times more parts than a similar kit from years previous. A model from just twenty year ago began with a carved wooden version then the mold was made from steel and carved in matching half reliefs. Today the industry is no longer "computer aided" it is fast becoming "computer controlled." Instructions are typically, exploded view, multilingual and highly simplified.
What does the average builder know about the difference between a Sopwith F.1 and a Sopwith 2F.1 airframe? In most cases the equipment in and around an open cockpit aircraft is foreign to the average model builder. The technology has simply been forgotten. Here I offer you the chance to reckon with the model company’s simplified details with the original aircraft. I will help you identify the kit parts with the original airframe components. From air pumps to engines to propellers to turnbuckles. Each build will go through the kit and even discuss various aftermarket items and their applications. I do mostly WWI 1/48 kits but there will be exceptions.
Unless noted most kits are purchased by me and even if a company gives me a kit and asks for a review - I owe nothing to any company. If I praise a company's product its because I and am willing to say so on my own website. Conversely if I don’t care for a kit or any of its components, rather than rant about what a modeling company should have done, I will help the builder by going through the method I used to correct the problems. Finally if you don’t see a review of a kit here - its because I haven’t gotten to it yet.
